A Journey Beyond the Fairway: The Baker Team’s Quest to Play The Top 25 Golf Courses

BY GRIFFIN BAKER, Sales Representative

In 2019, my father, Peter Baker, and I set out on a goal that was both personal and meaningful: to play the Top 25 golf courses in the United States. What began as a shared passion quickly turned into an unforgettable journey, one that has shaped not only our relationship but also how we approach our work together.

So far, we’ve played 16 of the Top 25, with three more lined up for this summer. Our travels have taken us to some of the most remote and breathtaking courses in the country, far from major airports or city centres. A few standouts include the understated brilliance of Crystal Downs in Frankfort, Michigan; the rugged beauty of Bandon Dunes in North Bend, Oregon; and our much-anticipated visit to Sand Hills Golf Club in Mullen, Nebraska.

But these trips have been about more than just golf. They’ve given us the space to connect talk, reflect, and share moments we might never have had otherwise. For me, these experiences were a turning point. Spending that kind of time with my dad, seeing the discipline, patience, and strategic thinking the game demands, it reinforced how those same principles apply to building a great business. That connection ultimately led me to join him at The Baker Team.

Our family-run real estate business is deeply rooted in those same values. Just like navigating a championship-level course, delivering exceptional service requires preparation, trust, clear communication, and perspective.

This journey has also given us a rare view of North America that has been filled with character, charm, and quiet beauty. From small-town diners to winding trails off the beaten path, we’ve explored places many overlook. These experiences have deepened our perspective and reminded us of the importance of staying grounded and intentional in everything we do.

As we prepare to cross a few more courses off our list this summer, I’m reminded that the original goal was to play great golf. But what we’ve built is far more lasting: a stronger bond as father and son, a shared sense of purpose, and a business shaped by everything we’ve learned along the way.
